Why Anti-Static Hose? Fine dust particles or chips carried by the hose can produce static electricity

when they rub against each other or the hose walls. The particles touch each other and then move

away from each other, transferring an electric charge between them. The friction produced by

these charged electrons can ultimately cause electrostatic discharge, or the familiar shock feeling

from static electricity, because there is an imbalance of electrical potential between the particles.

In manufacturing environments that create, transport or process fine dust, a seemingly harmless

spark of static electricity can trigger explosions. Static also causes materials to clump together and

can clog your hose.. When proper static-dissipating hose materials and proper grounding are used

during installation, durable and flexible anti-static hoses can maintain maximum airflow and

prevent static electricity from building up in the hose or its contents, reducing the risk of these

potential hazards .

What Makes a Hose Anti-Static?

Anti-static hose materials will either be static dissipative or static conductive. The majority of our

products are urethane with a static dissipative material. This allows non-conductive urethane to

safely dissipate electrical charge while resisting tearing, abrasion, and chemicals.

Grounding is equally important in terms of what makes the hose anti-static. Since anti-static air

hoses, material hoses and related varieties need to discharge static electricity and this requires

careful control, manufacturers often integrate a ground wire into the structure of the hose. This

ground wire provides a safe path for static electricity to follow, helping to prevent a dangerous

buildup that can trigger painful shocks at best or destructive sparks at worst. To discharge

electricity safely, antistatic hoses and conductor cables must be properly grounded.

Static Dissipative Hoses and Static Conductive Hoses

Static dissipative and static conductive hoses do the same job and produce the same result; In

other words, it prevents the formation of unwanted static electricity. However, where the two

types of anti-static hoses differ is in how they do this.

Hoses composed of static conductive materials prevent the build-up of static electricity by

providing less electrical resistance (higher conductivity) than surrounding components, essentially

helping to draw the charge from the hose and releasing it through proper grounding. Typical

applications include industrial anti-static vacuum cleaners and woodworking installations.

Static dissipative hoses, on the other hand, eliminate static electricity with a higher resistance hose

material; This means that electrical charge flows through a material in a controlled, slower manner.

The material itself helps prevent static electricity by spreading the charge across the hose surface

to prevent any discharge from becoming large enough to cause ignition.

static electricity by dispersing it through rubber material to the hose ends.
